Saturday’s “Designing with Vintage” with Gail Smith-Peterson
Spring Blues Springs first official weekend...intoxicating fragrance of orange and lemon blossoms are coming in the windows from our grove. The freshness of the new season is a perfect time to start cleaning out and de-cluttering our homes to make room for fresh blooms from the garden to be brought inside. Spring blues are lovely...
A blue vintage clock is an heirloom I love.

Taking a peak around my house I have some pretty vintage blues to share. My vintage dining room chandy has some blue pieces on it.

This pair of vintage French sconces. I loved them because of the blue tear drop crystals.

A vintage canvas painting with some touches of soft blues looks pretty. A loaf of banana bread wrapped in a vintage tea towel edged with blue fret work.

A little bird nest with pretty blue paper eggs sitting on a rain gutter finial.

My hydrangeas in many shades of blues are hanging to dry out. I have more blues than I thought, I am delighted have them freshen up our spring decor.

Here's a Painted Sap Bucket available at Second Shout Out ~ Click Here
My design tip: Little touches of a single color adds a subtle change to any seasons decor, without over powering your home...like a patchwork.
Hope your first weekend of Spring is gorgeous!

It is so stormy here today in the Northwest all I can think about is what a warm summer day might feel like. The sun warming you to the bone… Stack of summer reads … Cool refreshing drinks in mason jars… Camping in style…
Cuddling under a vintage Pendleton blanket round the camp fire roasting marshmallows… I could go on but instead I’ll post a few photos of what is floating through my daydreams today.

I could go on but I think you get the idea. Here’s to Summertime on the first day of Spring!
Ciao,

What I love about living aboard is the resourcefulness, the simple interiors, simple colors like white, cream and the wood floors and wonderful old antique and vintage furniture that is not always perfect but it works. The older the better. While reproductions can be great, why not adventure out of buying a new piece of furniture and hop on your computer and click to Second Shout Out and find a charming piece of furniture you can add to your home.
As HVÍTUR LAKKRÍS puts it ~ "My fundamental idea is a way of life in a home, an environment in which masculine feminine face all the time. It is my way to finish with a bit of both. I have an inherent resistance to the perfect, and think about when something is scuffed and avskavt. Life is, of course, the question of to live and not to be afraid of one or the other.

After being stuck indoors and shoveling more snow than I care to remember, I am ready for spring and to escape to my backyard. I’ve often dreamed of having my own space that I could fill with things that I call visual dessert. The Swedish blog Hvitur Lakkiris has inspired & styled my dream space. I could spend hours here reading and creating. As with all inspiration you tweak it to make it totally yours. I like to mix glam with rustic and I would add a bit more color. Remember filling your space is a journey not a destination and there is no right or wrong, this is truly all about you!

Saturday’s “Designing with Vintage” with Gail Smith-Peterson
Vintage is the ultimate green ~ Green is a beautiful color for spring. From fresh pale soft greens to dark lush lawns and every shade in between.

A vintage gemstone called “Peridot” is the birthstone for August.

Vintage cars are even green, not only in color but we are bringing them back to working condition and enjoying a timeless style statement.

Fresh pears from the grove are delicious and make a beautiful centerpiece.

Sweet clovers shaped cookies are perfect for Saint Patrick’s Day! A vintage memento of my dads was from a St. Patrick’s celebration many years ago. I love the graphics and it was in San Diego.

A vintage horseshoe said to be lucky.... laying in a bed of baby tears.
Tomorrow on St. Patricks’ day remember wearing some green so you don’t get pinched, eat lots of greens for good health and display some lucky items in your decor for a little added good luck!
My design tip: Vintage as the Ultimate Green. Buying vintage items is re-using, re-cycling items that have been manufactured.
Have a fun weekend!

Alketas Pazis rescues and collects objects, lighting, and furniture from the 1900's to 1950's. He reclaims industrial furnishings and wares and rents them to commercial and movie studios in Greece. While Pazis' showroom which is called Temporary Showroom is outfitted with the most obscure mid century pieces, his residence which is attached to his business is equally as charming, eclectic and cleverly collected. This is Avant-Garde at its best!

Happy Friday!
