New Year’s Eve... Vintage Style

As we close the door on 2012 it is tradition to celebrate!

I hope you look back at the events of this year fondly. It is time to prepare for New year’s eve, a few photos from my home as we prepare!

Gentlemen of course could wear....a pair of Vintage wing tips.  This pair has sentimental meaning, they are from our wedding, The Hat box was a find from the 40’s.

A vintage tux with a glitter top hat is perfect for him.

A vintage silver brush that I use as a shoe brush for my gold silk slippers.

I will have a vintage silver tray filled with glasses for some evening cappuccinos.  I hope you pull out your vintage trays and platters for entertaining all year.

My favorite white vintage metal stool holds a special edition Evian water. I wrapped the seat of the stool with my favorite vintage apron, that was my Grandmother’s.

My design tip: Vintage fashion, vintage accouterments all tell a story about you and your style, take some time and figure out what you want your own style to say about you.

I hope you enjoy Saturday’s “Designing with Vintage” my intention is to keep it light, fresh and inspiring with ideas. Vintage can be used everywhere, design, home, fashion and daily living. Thank you for visiting here at SECOND SHOUT OUT blog posts.

Have a beautiful New Years Eve! May 2013 bring Love, Good Health & Peace to all.

Vintage Kitchen Cart Roundup

I own one of these funny little shoe repair carts and I have used it for storage in the kitchen for the most part.   It then, made its way out to the deck, during the summer for serving dinner and finally it was banished to the garage where it has stayed for the last few months, waiting for me to let it back in the house!
Please let me come back in...I'll be a good cart...I promise

You can still find these little carts at antique shows... they are easy to clean up, easy move around and have a million uses... because they are so simple

These happen to be from the White Flower Farm House shop where the incredibly talented owner Lori, had a few for sale

This one is in Lori's kitchen and I think she bleached this rack to brighten the wood...I love it!
But I love everything she does!

This is an old cupboard made from recycled wood and old doors that I used in another kitchen

Heres a cool looking green one...

here is my little cart... it holds quite a bit of dish ware.. I added a decorative swag this weekend...a few left over clippings and some fruit from the tangerine trees

sending out
 good  and happy
thoughts to all...

Industrial Chic

Adding elements of Industrial Vintage to interiors such as modern, rustic, mid-century etc… can create both nostalgic charm and industrial chic.  Mixing a 1940’s French Crystal Chandelier with large vintage industrial Holophane Pendant lighting creates the ambience of elegant & industrial rustic, add in a touch of color such as hot pink and you have that wow factor.

Your home office needs to inspire you.  With elements such as industrial vintage metal baskets, a gorgeous red leather vintage trunk and pops of color you are ready to take on any project.

Take a rustic farm house kitchen, add industrial vintage lighting and Herman Sperlich metal ironrite health chairs, prop up a modern photograph and you create stunning.

A family room is a place to gather and enjoy each other.  Adding vintage pieces for storage such as this fun poultry farm incubator drawers would be fantastic for flat files such as photos & art work. The vintage transit route sign can start the conversation about your next vacation!

Your space should never feel stuck in any one style or be too matchy- matchy.  Mix up different styles and elements to create an environment that belongs to you.

Winter White’s Allure

“Designing with Vintage” ~ Gail Smith-Peterson

It’s officially December Winter Solstice on the calendar...just a few days until Christmas. When I think of Winter Solstice, I dream of my favorite White... “Winter White”.

Papery winter white birch logs cut by my dad years ago, I treasure them...they stand tall in this vintage box that was found on the property at our old beach house from the 1940’s.

A large French Antique mirror hangs over the mantle in our dining room. All worn and beautifully faded, l was smitten by it when I found it .... in Winter White.

A vintage street lamp base is a rare find and the details are beautiful...Would be a beautiful table base or fountain. Found it just like this, in Winter White...

Imagine this Vintage French enamel water basin set filled with flowers on your front door in Winter White.

A little petiteWinter White metal French style candle sticksitting indoors with a snowy window sill outside brings warmth to a chilly evening.

A corner Hutchthat you could style with your favorite vintage cups and tea towels gives a nod to Nordic style in Winter White.

*All items with links area available right now in my store

*Happy Winter Solstice*

Wishing you a LOVELY Christmas, filled with HOPE & PEACE.

My design tip: Winter White is neutral,Luxe, it works with any colour palate.

Brocante Warehouse Heaven!

Jamie Altman
Pin It!

With the outdoor flea markets and brocantes coming to an end now until early spring, I am on the hunt for other sources and stores for vintage shopping.  We have a nice long list of options already… indoors, open year-around…but are always thrilled to come across an undiscovered shopping destination!  So a few weeks ago when we came across a random warehouse while in a nearby town, we thought we would explore to see what it offered. Marked 'Brocante' it was a basic, not fancy building in an industrial commercial area.  We may have passed it a dozen times without a glance.

When we stepped in it only took about 60 seconds for my heart to start racing.... I had died and woken up in 'brocante heaven'!  A huge warehouse full of the widest selection of French antiques and vintage --- and the prices?  Unbelievable!!!  So although I was feeling weak in the knees... we explored it from corner to corner, floor to ceiling.....

I pulled out my phone and snapped away!

...Take a look!

Like I said--nothing fancy....but so worth the visit!  We immediately added it as a 'must stop' on my vintage shopping touritinerary!  You could easily fill a container to send back to the US in about 10 minutes!

Another off-the-beaten path source for amazing French vintage finds—just a short drive from home for me and for you…. a perfect addition to your vintage shopping tour itinerary!

Tour de Broco is booking now for Spring and Summer 2013 tours.
