Saturday’s “Designing with Vintage” with Gail Smith-Peterson

European Painted Cupboards

The time worn finish of a painted cupboard just has so much character. I rarely will paint a piece, unless it’s a built in piece that needs a crisp, glossy paint finish then I will have it sprayed with a high gloss enamel. I have been looking for the perfect piece for my powder bath that is under construction. I found it!

The space is small, I needed a corner piece, something unique and special with european vintage charm...

This old pine cupboard is very Scandinavian, the azure blue old paint is so lovely. I had to have this vintage piece for my powder bath. The scallop details and the worn paint are perfect...

I love this corner cupboard too. The glass doors are so pretty! Found on Pinterest.

Love this one too, except...doesn’t look like a corner piece.

This painted pine white corner Nordic Hutch piece would be amazing in any corner, love the fluted detail.

My design tip: European vintage cupboards that are painted are beautiful. Using them for storage is practical and uniquely and add a touch style to a space.

Have a lovely Saturday!

Gail

Last year at some point, I remember seeing so many wonderful images of art and typography used on blackboards.  Some were themed for the holidays, others were inspirational quotes or messages about family and friends... (below)

all of them have that wonderful quality of being made by hand and perfectly imperfect as only chalk can bevia Even Oprah

and Time hopped on board with a magazine covers... (below)

Dana initially worked for a Graphic Design firm, but found her calling in the interesting world of chalkboard art and Typography while doodling on a blackboard with friends... and the rest...as they say...it just plain amazing... (below)

She has worked for quite a few firms in the Silicon Valley... a made a mark on the Fashion world with store and window display chalkboards...

She has created labels,  home decor products, corporate office slogans and event signage All of which feature her hand created typography that is beautiful, thought provoking and original and to some degree temporary...which she finds part of the creative aspect of using chalk.. (below)

events, magazine graphics and private interiors (below)

I purchased a vintage slate chalkboard and would like to have a little art like Dana's in my kitchen... (below)

I purchased a vintage slate chalkboard and would like to have a little art like Dana's in my kitchen I doubt it will be all that impressive  but it's a fun idea and there is always and eraser near by!

Hope you enjoyed seeing Dana and her work....

Cheers ~Kelley~

“A home without books is a body without soul” ~ By Marcus Tullius Cicero

I strongly believe this myself. Our home is filled with books, there isn’t a room without a book in it. Truly!

Here are a few other homes with the same belief…

Book Mantle

Library Dining Room

Door surround

Book bench

Cozy Books

Mezzanine

What can I say, reading is just sexy!

The works of Harriet Anstruther Studio of London.  Stylish. Witty. Surprising.

Saturday’s “Designing with Vintage” with Gail Smith-Peterson ~ Stunning French staircases

Entrances are made...goodbyes are tearfully embraced. Stories are told sitting on them.

Romantic proposals are often staged on them...These have metal embossed details.

This pair is Stunningly beautiful!

The curvy lines of these staircases and the metal baluster are so lovely.

Recently I was on a vintage shopping trip to Northern California with a friend, I took her to see this set of  spiral french stairs in a little shop in Carmel. These are perfect for both of us...they only had one like this and the curve faces the wrong direction!

My design tip: Staircases are certainly the biggest focal point for interior spaces. Vintage staircases will add history to a new home that can’t be duplicated with new construction.

Have a beautiful Saturday....Perhaps you’ll come across a vintage staircase when your with someone you love... might there be a romantic proposal! Valentines is just right around the corner!
