Saturday’s “Designing with Vintage” with Gail Smith-Peterson ~ Out and About in Chicago
Last week I was in the midwest, Gorgeous Spring weather! One day we went to the Chicago Botanical Gardens.
The gardens really took my breathe away! I was inspired and I hope you will be too!
This area is called Walled Gardens. It overlooked water and had a view of the large bell tower.

Inside the small brick building.

The view looking through the oval brick window!
A cold frame for growing seeds and tips how to restore one.
There were magnificent examples of Espalier fruit trees. This one is a Burford Pear.
Perfectly placed posts for grapes in a small vineyard.

On Sunday we went to a wonderful flea market in Wisconsin. Saw this garden chair made with burlap
pockets and succulent plants tucked into them!

My design tip: Use out of the box thinking, incorporate vintage pieces like the old chair to plant in!
Have a beautiful Memorial Day weekend, Safe travels!

Gail

After an exhausting but fun two weeks of moving into my farm house and my new apartment in NYC I'm happily back in the blogosphere, and have lots interesting things, odd things and of course, pretty things to share with you all. Being in the country for just a few weeks now I've discovered so many neat little shops, antique dealers and flea markets. I can't wait to share them all with you, and share photos of my old old house that I am so proud of. For now, here is a great oddity shop and blog in Norway created by Rydeng Kunsthandel that is full of dark and beautiful nostalgia. Have a Happy Weekend!

Metal, metal, metal…
I love metal chairs, of any kind especially if they are vintage metal chairs. They add color, texture, patina and interest to both outside and inside.
Oh, and they don’t have to match!

She happens to be one of 'our' favorites here at Second Shout Out. Kelley has talent ~ she brings a simple philosophy to her homes. She buys only what she loves she doesn’t follow every trend and she edits for a clean and calm space while focusing on the details.
We love Kelley, plus she has the best brittle recipe in the world... Check out this months "Country Living" her home in Ojai is

I don’t know how many of you follow Abigail Ahern, but I have been following her for a while, I'm not even sure how I came across her blog but I did and I’m glad I did.
Her style is quirky, dark, moody, fun and always the best lighting. Not only does her style rock she has the two cutest dogs who are often in
her blog and photos. She has a new book out “Decorating with Style” all images shot By Graham Atkins Hughes. Her London pad is divine.
Here, look for yourself…really you will find something that will inspire you.

A nifty farm house in the south of France showcases industrial materials and lots of old wood. I'm really getting into corrugated tin right now, especially when it's patinated like this wall treatment. The juxtaposition of industrial and the wood in this space is fantastic. Simply old world with a spin!

Wishing all Mom's a very Happy Mother's Day!
Two old vintage silverplate plant markers for your Mom. One says I love you, the other, Mom. They are made lovingly by me using acid-free paper, archival ink and pencil. Please note: we work with odd lots of spoons so your set will vary in style, length, patina.
